The Partner Visa, also known as the Spouse Visa, allows the spouse or de facto partner of an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen to live in Australia. The spouse or de facto partner is initially granted a temporary visa and is eligible for a permanent residency visa if the relationship still exists after a two-year period.
However, there are some exemptions in which the applicants might be considered to be granted permanent residency without having to satisfy the initial temporary residency requirements if the applicants are already in a long-term partner relationship.
If you are engaged to an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen, and you wish to travel to Australia for your marriage, you may be eligible for the Prospective Marriage Visa, which allows fiancés/fiancees to enter Australia to get married to their partner within 9 months. Following your marriage, you may then be eligible for the Partner visa, provided you meet certain criteria and requirements.
The most important thing to consider when applying for a Partner Visa is that you must be able to prove that you are in a genuine and continuing relationship. There are various aspects when assessing the genuineness and continuance of your relationship, including financial aspects, the nature of household aspects, social aspects, and commitment to each other. Same-sex couples can also apply for this visa if they are in a de facto relationship.
Partner visas allow you to stay, work, and study in Australia and you can also access to Medicare system. You can include your dependent children in the application.
