There are a number of different visa classes under the Parent Visa program which allows a parent or parents of a settled Australian citizen or permanent resident, who sponsor the parent and have lived lawfully in Australia for the two years immediately before the application is lodged, to reunite their families and live in Australia on a temporary or permanent basis.
However, the sponsoring child must be settled in Australia, and the parent must meet the ‘balance of family’ test.
The Contributory Parent visa is required to make an additional payment to the Australian government, in return for which their visa application is processed more quickly.
The current standard processing time for Parent Visas is extremely long, approximately 30 years from the date of application, due to the large number of applications and the fact that Australia only grants a certain number of Parent visas each year. The waiting period for a Contributory Parent visa is significantly less, approximately 5-6 years from the date of application.

- Contributory Parent Visa (offshore subclasses 143, 173)
- Contributory Parent Visa (onshore subclasses 864, 884)
